Race Iowa’s to lose

October 24, 2009

in Last Season

The Iowa Hawkeyes needed a last-second touchdown pass to stay unbeaten and firmly in control of its Big Ten and BCS destiny.  At 8-0 (4-0), Iowa is four victories away from at least a ticket to the Rose Bowl and perhaps something more.  The Ohio State Buckeyes 6-2 (4-1) also control their own destiny since they play Iowa at the Shoe on November 14th.  Win out, and the Bucks will head to Pasadena.

Penn State (7-1) (3-1) thanks to its loss in September to the Hawkeyes needs some help to get back to the Rose Bowl, but can win out and  win a part of the conference title with an Iowa loss and a 11-1 finish by the Nittany Lions.  Thereafter, Penn State will likely head to the Fiesta or Orange Bowl, with Hawkeyes headed to Pasadena.

Remaining Schedules

Iowa – Indiana, Northwestern, at Ohio State, Minnesota

Ohio State – (New Mexico State), at Penn State, Iowa, at Michigan

Penn State – at Northwestern, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State

Remaining Possible Tie-Breakers

Iowa / Penn State tie – Iowa goes to Rose Bowl/BCS National Championship, Penn State heads to BCS, both win share of conference title

Iowa / Ohio State tie – assumes OSU beats Iowa but wins the rest of its games – Ohio State heads to Pasadena, Iowa to BCS, both share title

Popularity: 1%
