Halloween is that one day of the year when creepy is in and football is often played. However, for Halloween to be truly creepy in the world of Big Ten football – especially for Penn State fans – is if the Indiana Hoosiers would travel to Iowa and pull a Purdue on the fourth ranked team in the nation.
As we’ve said many times in recent days, the ONLY way that Penn State has a chance to at least retain a share of the conference title, Iowa needs to lose once. To get back to the Rose Bowl, Penn State thereafter, Iowa needs to lose twice in its final four games. Amazingly, Indiana is 3-4 versus the Hawkeyes this decade so stranger things have happened. Therefore, at noon on Saturday, refrain from putting on your blue and white for a little while, and put on your Hoosiers tee-shirts and cheer on the team from Bloomington.
Indiana versus Iowa - This Decade 2008/10/11 Indiana 9 - Iowa 45 L 2007/09/29 Indiana 38 - Iowa 20 W 2006/10/14 Indiana 31 - Iowa 28 W 2005/10/15 Indiana 21 - Iowa 38 L 2002/10/19 Indiana 8 - Iowa 24 L 2001/10/20 Indiana 28 - Iowa 42 L 2000/09/30 Indiana 45 - Iowa 33 W
Of course, all is for not if Penn State doesn’t take care of business at Northwestern, where Penn State is 4-2 all-time. Of course, one of those losses came against the Wildcat’s 1995 Rose Bowl team, while the other came in 2003 when Penn State was just terrible. Therefore, Penn State should crush to 8-1 (4-1), setting up a thriller at the Beav next weekend against Ohio State.
