It’s over: Bowden set to retire

in Last Season

Florida State’s Bobby Bowden is calling it quits.  On Tuesday, the coach that has called FSU home for 37 years will make it official and call it a career.

Of course, the Florida State administration didn’t give Bowden much of a choice.  According to reports, Bowden met with FSU’s president this afternoon and was given a choice:  act as a ceremonial head coach in 2010 or retire.  The coach took the right path, given the choices.

Prior to Bobby Bowden’s arrival to Florida State, Seminole football was a joke.  Thanks to the pathetic coach-in-waiting concept brought on by the FSU administration three years ago when it appointed Jimbo Fisher heir-apparent, Bowden is leaving with the FSU football pretty much a pathetic joke.  When Fisher was crowned future king, Bowden’s fate was sealed, recruiting suffered and the rest is history.

What should have happened is this: Bowden should have been given one more year and able to leave on his terms, but that isn’t happening.
